MALIK: Here Is Why Fahadh Faasil Backed Down On Theatrical Release Of His Upcoming Film On State-Border Politics - EXCLUSIVE
Fahadh Faasil was all set for his latest film, a grand epic-sized political drama Malik to release in movie theatres. But nowadays, Man proposes Covid disposes.
Malayalam superstar Fahadh Faasil, arguably the best male actor in India right now, was all set for his latest film a grand epic-sized political drama Malik to release in movie theatres. But nowadays, Man proposes Covid disposes.
Fahadh has now explained in a long, heartbreaking, post why Malik is being released on the digital platform.
Apparently he fought tooth and nail with the producers against the decision to translocate Malik from theatres to the digital platform. But the producers felt waiting for the pandemic to subside and theatres to re-open would mean added financial losses. Just two months back in an interview with me Fahadh felt the digital and threatrical platforms are not mutually inclusive. “My two latest releases Joji and Irul were made specially for the OTT platform. They wouldn’t have worked so well in movie theatres. My next release Malik which is about state-border politics is designed specially for the movie theatres. I believe the OTT platform and theatre business have separate identities, separate lives.” ALSO READ: Fahadh Faasil On the Digital Release of Malik, says,'The Decision To Skip The Theatrical Route Wasn't An Easy One’
In fact Fahadh told me was planning a version C U Soon which was released digitally last year, for the big screen. “It will be made on a different scale ,a much bigger canvas and it will be shot on outdoor locations. The digital version of C U Soon was shot entirely indoors.”
But now in what is obviously a big blow for the brilliant actor’s take on the OTT platform, Malik has been sold to the digital platform.
In a reverse move, Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom in Hindi which was under advanced negotiations on the OTT platform has withdrawn itself from the digital domain . Akshay announced on Twitter that Bell Bottom would release in theatres on 27 July.
It isn’t clear whether Akshay took his co-producers into confidence while making this announcement. Since there is no clarity on the re-opening of movie theatres, the new release date for Bell Bottom could be a little more than wishful thinking.
